What to think of before you buy a pet
Pets can look fun at first sight but do you really know that it will be fun after some years? Do you gonna make this pet happy? Is this the right pet for you? There is many questions you have to ask yourself before you buy a pet. Here is a try to give you something to think about before you buy your pet.
Why do you want a pet?
If you don't know why you want a pet I think you have think until you know. If the answer of the question is that you want a pet because it's cute and soft you have to know that a pet is more than that. You will have to make more than just cuddle and look at your pet. The pet need food and water. The cage has to be cleaned and so on. If it's a young pet you have to remember that it will grow and will in most cases not be as cute as before.
If you want a pet because it gives you status when you show it to your friends you should probably not buy a pet. You need more reasons to buy a pet than that. Otherwise you will be bored of taking care of it and if you don't take care of it the pet health can be bad and feel lonely.
If you want a pet because everybody has one and you think that if other people can take care of their pets you can do so too. Then you have to know that there is many people that have pets but not taking care of them as they should. You need other reasons to buy a pet because this is not enough.
If you want pets because you want an extra friend that is a good reason. If you see that your pet is your friend you will have easier to take care of it. It will be more fun and you will probably find the motivation that is so important to you and your pet. Note that there is many kind of pets and all of them is different. Fishes is easier to take care of but not always as fun. Mammals often need more time together with others. They doesn't want to be alone all the time especially herd animals.
Is your home a good home for a pet?
If the pet have to be able to walk out and in as it wants to like a cat you should not live in a apartment. It's way too hard to make it work. If your pet is inside your home a lot you have to make sure that it's big enough. Is there other pets in your home already and will they work together? There is many things to think of and the best is that you think think of the needs of your pet and be creative! If you are not sure your pet will be happy at your home it's better to wait or maybe take another pet it depends on you.
Who will take care of your pet?
If it's only you that are will take care of it you have to know that it's a lot of work and you will be disabled by your pet. Will manage to take care of the pet? Give the it food. Play with it. Clean the cage and so on. Make sure you have the time to do all this.
If there is more than you that want to take care of the pet make sure that everybody knows what it means to take care of a pet. Some of the other people might get bored of it and don't want to take care of it anymore. If this risk exist, can you take care of the pet alone? At least you have to have a plan what to do if someone don't do their work.
Can you afford a pet?
The cost of the pet when you buy it is not the only cost. A pet needs food regularly. It might need equipment like lead, cage, water bowl and so on. Can you afford a pet insurance? There is more costs that you might think of if you never have had a pet before. Make sure you know about the costs before you buy your pet so it won't come as a surprise to you.
Will you get bored of your pet?
A pet lives for many years so it's important that you don't get bored of it. It's hard to know the day you buy it but as I said before. If you see your pet as your friend your chances are big that you don't get bored. The pet will probably not be as fun as in the beginning after some time. Keep that in mind. The choice of pet is important because there is so many pets and each sort has it's own style. Read or ask someone about the pet and make sure that this is the pet you really want.
